Mission
and Outreach
As Christians we are called to be
engaged in the local community and the world, serving others before
we serve ourselves. And by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked,
giving shelter to the homeless, providing care for the sick, and
serving in countless other ways, we discover the face of Christ
among those we serve.
At First
Presbyterian, the Board of Deacons serve as the primary group
responsible for mission and outreach. The Deacons sponsor efforts
to bring important emergency and social issues to the attention of
the church family, and helps us to mobilize our response.

budget include:

of Deacons. Information on workdays and projects is available
through “The Banner” newsletter, the Calendar, and on the
Information Board at the church each Sunday. Seasonal projects like
the CROP Walk, Angel Tree and Samaritan's Purse “Operation:
Christmas Child” Shoeboxes are undertaken at various times during
the year.
In
addition, special needs are considered by the Deacons and funded
through its discretionary fund. The Presbyterian Women and the
youth groups support a wide variety of mission projects throughout
the year, both independently and in partnership with the Deacons.
The church
sponsors mission trips for the youth and adults of the church. The
High School youth take part in a week-long mission trip during the
summer. Information about the location and projects for each year’s
High School trip is available by calling Ben Acton.
The young
people and adults also take part in a by-yearly trip to Reynosa,
Mexico. This trip is a medical/construction trip. The next trip to
Mexico will be in November, 2009. Information on this trip is
available by calling Leslie Piper. |
