Worship
Education
The events listed here describe elements of our Christian Education
program that take place during Sunday Morning worship.
Nursery Care
During the 8:45 and 11:00 worship services, First Presbyterian
provides a loving and secure environment where our youngest children
(birth-Kindergarten) learn about the love pf God through contact
with their caregivers. During the 11:00 service, caregivers are
primarily parent volunteers, scheduled to work in each age-level
nursery. At the 8:45 service, the nurseries are staffed by paid
workers.
Junior Church
Kindergartners and 1st graders attend the 11:00am worship service
with their parents and may choose to leave the service at a
designated time to go to Junior Church. These students under the
leadership of parent volunteers undergo a time of worship
preparation, studying the order of worship, sacraments, liturgical
symbols, and Bible stories.
Children may be picked up after the service from the Junior Church
room on the 2nd floor of the Will Young Building.
Baptism
Baptism is a celebration of God’s grace and a recognition of God’s
acting in grafting us into the covenant community. Through baptism
we become members of God’s own family. Baptism is also a chance for
the congregation and the family of the one being baptized to commit
their support in nurturing and raising the one being baptized in the
faith, teaching them the stories of Jesus Christ—no matter what
their age may be.
The Presbyterian Church(USA) affirms and practices both infant and
adult baptism and accepts into membership any who have been baptized
in a Christian Church, without further baptizing.
Parents who call the church to schedule their child’s baptism will
be invited to meet with the pastor, who will then talk with the
parents about the significance of the sacrament of baptism. An
elder, representing the congregation, will participate in the
service with your family, and your child will receive a copy of The
Children’s Bible in 365 Stories. This process is similar for adults
wishing to be baptized.
Bible Presentation
Children who are baptized at First Presbyterian receive The
Children’s Bible in 365 Stories. At the end of their 4th grade year,
children are again presented with an engraved copy of the New
Revised Standard Version of the Bible, during the 11:00 worship
service.
Children’s Bulletins
Available at both Sunday Morning services, these bulletins are
provided for children. They offer learning activities related to the
morning’s Scripture lessons. As their child grows, parents are
encouraged to help them follow the order of worship, work through
the children’s bulletin, find the pages of the hymnal, pray with the
congregation, and sing repeated refrains of hymns and familiar
responses. Please ask an usher for one of these bulletins.
