CHILDREN
Sunday School is from 9:45 a.m. – 10:40 a.m., September – June.
First Presbyterian provides a loving and secure environment where our youngest children (infants thru four-year-olds) learn about the love of God through contact with their caregivers. The nurseries are staffed by paid workers and youth volunteers.
Fisherman’s Net is our Workshop Rotation Sunday School Class for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. Each week students come to the Chapel next to the Library/Conference Room in the Education Building to share joys and concerns and to pray together. From there they split into their different age groups and go explore the day’s Bible story through a variety of learning styles, including art, drama, movies, Bible study, science, and even cooking! Children may be dropped off in the chapel at 9:45 a.m. For pick-up, parents are asked to refer to the “Room Locators” that are posted throughout the Education Building.
Kindergartners and first graders attend the 11:00 a.m. worship service with their parents and may choose to leave the service at a designated time to go to Junior Church. These students under the leadership of parent volunteers undergo a time of worship preparation, studying the order of worship, sacraments, liturgical symbols, and Bibles verses. Children may be picked up after the service from the Junior Church room on the second floor of the Will Young Building.
Children’s Worship Bags and Bulletins are available at both worship services. These items offer learning activities related to the morning’s scripture lessons. As their child grows, parents are encouraged to help them follow the order of worship, work through the children’s bulletin, find the pages of the hymnal, pray with the congregation, and sing repeated refrains of hymns and familiar responses.
Vacation Bible School is held in July of each year. Children ages, four thru rising fifth graders, are invited to attend a week of Vacation Bible School (or VBS, for short). The VBS program provides enrichment in Christian Education, planned Bible study, and recreation. Teachers for the program include church staff, parents, young adults, and youth!
