Leadership/Volunteer Opportunities
Adults:
If you are an adult reading this and have also read just about
any other page on this site having to do with Youth Ministry, you
most likely realize that one of the biggest components of this
ministry is the presence of caring and committed adults whom young
people can look to as mentors, role models, and trusted friends.
Serving in this
way is not for every adult, but there just may be a need in youth
ministry that you can help fill, whether it be as a Sunday School
Teacher, Sunday Night Youth Advisor, Meal Preparer, Car Driver,
Confirmation Guide, Mission Trip Participant —or a host of other
things!
While many of our
helpers in this regard are parents of current youth, and while we
encourage such parental participation, these opportunities for
leadership and support are not limited to them—any member of First
Presbyterian is welcome to inquire about how their gifts might
contribute to Youth Ministry. Download the Adult Commitment

Youth:
Like with all church programs, Youth Ministry recognizes Jesus
as head of the church—what we do and how we lead is centered on what
we know of the person and work of Christ—one who ate with outcasts,
befriended sinners, healed the sick and comforted the brokenhearted,
always looking to serve others before serving himself. And of
course, Jesus was not alone—he called others to follow him, to work
with him and to serve others as he served them.
The leadership of
youth ministry at First Presbyterian seeks to follow this model by
adopting what is known as the “team approach” to youth ministry, in
which young people and adults, working in partnership help plan,
implement, and advocate the different programs and needs of youth in
the congregation and community.
To that end,
every year the High School Youth nominate leaders among their peers
to serve on the Youth Ministry Council. Along with adult
representatives invited by the youth and Associate Pastor, these
young people meet monthly to discuss needs of youth in the church,
plan weekly and monthly events, dream of ways in which all youth can
engage in ministry, and imagine how they can invite others to be
apart of God’s work in this congregation.
