Sunday Night
Youth Fellowship
(Download the
2008-2009 Youth Information/Medical Release Form
here)
During the school year (Late August-May), Youth Fellowship meets
on Sunday nights for Middle School and High School.
The normal
schedule is:
5:00 p.m.-6:00
p.m. Middle School Youth Fellowship
6:00 p.m.-6:30
p.m.: Dinner for All Youth (Davis Hall)
6:30 p.m.-7:30
p.m.: High School Youth Fellowship
Young people and
adult advisors gather first in Davis Hall for a prayer and
recreation, but oftentimes spread out to other parts of the church
building depending on the activity that takes place each evening.
Those activities
and events fall generally into one of four categories:
-
Exploration: Bible study/discussion oriented types of
programs where young people “explore” and reflect on how their
faith impacts other relevant issues in their life.
-
Fellowship: Activities (e.g. games, retreats, ski trips,
summer conferences ) geared around group-building and developing
identity among young people as a community of faith.
- Mission:
Done both within the congregation and outside the church walls,
activities such as baking cookies, creating Christmas cards, and
planning for the annual mission trip focus on helping young
people develop in Christian discipleship, serving God by serving
others.
- Worship:
Experiences of prayer and praise within the group (regular
Vesper services, devotions, prayers) designed to enable young
people to notice and name God’s presence with them.
During the year,
some events, such as the "Christmas Missions Extravaganza" or planning
for Youth-Led Worship necessitate Middle School and High School
meeting at the same time. Additionally, Christmas parties, Super
Bowl Parties or other Fellowship and Mission Activities may cause a
change in the normal meeting time. Check the Banner and the
Youth Activities Calendar about these alternative meeting times.
Each young person
is asked to bring $35 in the fall and again in the spring to help
pay for the costs of the Youth Dinner on Sunday Nights. Funds are
available to help cover that cost for families who need such
assistance.
Also, each year,
every young person participating in Youth Fellowship needs to have
an updated “Youth Information Form/Medical Release on file in the church
office. This form, found above, provides the church with a record of
youth's interests and hobbies as well as insurance and emergency contact information for each youth in a
given academic year.
Both the Youth
Fee and other forms can be returned to the Associate
Pastor for Youth Ministry.
